Mayor Menino Addresses Cleveland Gun Forum
Dec 2 - Coalition Co-Chair Tom Menino of Boston met with a group of mayors and local law enforcement officials from northern Ohio to discuss various topics related to the fight against illegal guns in the region. Mayor Menino then gave a keynote address about illegal guns to a public audience gathered at the Cleveland House of Blues. Also, 29 new mayors from Ohio joined the coalition, bringing the state’s total to 51 members. Ohio is now the state with the most members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, followed closely by Florida, which has 48 members.

2008 National Summit
Mayors Against Illegal Guns held its 2008 national summit on April 14 in Washington, DC. The coalition announced a landmark partnership with Wal-Mart to put in place practices to reduce the risk of illegal gun purchases. The coalition also unveiled a new television advertisement drawing attention to the bipartisan common ground that exists between all 3 presidential candidates when it comes to protecting Americans from crimes committed with illegal guns.

Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns Hearing
The bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Illegal Guns held a hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington on April 15, 2008 to examine the problem of illegal gun trafficking. Mayors testified before the task force about common sense measures that Congress can take to fight the flow of illegal guns into America's cities. Florida Conference: 20 New Mayors and a New Coalition of State Legislators Against Illegal Guns Announced
March 3, 2008 - Mayors Against Illegal Guns convened in Florida to address issues including the economic costs of gun violence, the role of state legislatures, and the importance of community involvement in combating illegal gun crimes. The coalition also announced 20 new Florida members as well as a new coalition of State Legislators Against Illegal Guns.

Coalition Announces Regional Gun Data-Sharing Initiative
February 13, 2008 - Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon hosted 16 mayors and city representatives from 7 states at a regional violence reduction summit where the coalition announced plans to share crime gun data in the Mid-Atlantic region. At the conference, mayors discussed the escalating crime trends and the costs of gun violence and other strategies to reduce violent crime, including intelligence gathering.
